This was very ceremonial and we were told to stand the entire time.
Did you know??? The land for Arlington National Cemetary was confiscated from Robert E. Lee during the Civil War?

The history buff in me has to add that not only was his home confiscated, but the land was turned into a cemetery right away. This so that Lee would see the graves and never forget what he (and the war) had done to the country. Can you imagine what life must have been like back then??
